The discernment process as to whether to go on pilgrimage is not one that is logical or understandable to most outsiders. Pilgrims make great sacrifices from work, family, and other commitments to take on a journey filled with challenges. Pilgrimage can be dangerous, expensive, and uncomfortable compared to one's normal way of living. Amongst all the reasons to say no, committing to pilgrimage is fulfilling a calling. Even though it does not always make sense, saying yes brings the greatest sense of peace.
